Everything flows from this first choice. The family home, with its marquee in the yard, remains the queen of formats: warm, flexible, economical , but it puts you in charge of everything, from catering to clean-up. A privatised restaurant reverses the equation: less mental load, higher per-head budget. A villa for the day provides the setting (pool, garden, sometimes right on the water) for a birthday that feels like a holiday. And for small groups, an elaborate picnic on a public beach has a charm nothing replaces — just check with the district council if you plan a large setup (marquee, sound system).
Kids' birthdays: the magic lies in the theme
For children, a well-chosen theme makes 80% of the memory: princesses or dinosaurs, mermaids or superheroes, it guides the cake, the decor, the games and even the dress code.
